Dark Brown - Organic Hair Color
Dark Brown
Colour Me Organic Premium
Certified Organic Hair Colour Powder · 3.5oz
A brown close to the one you already have, made from seven organic herbs. No peroxide, no ammonia, no PPD. It processes for about an hour, then keeps developing for two to three days.
The first rinse looks green, not brown. That is the indigo before it has oxidised, and it is the normal starting point for this shade. The brown arrives around day two.
Dark Brown sits close to where naturally dark hair already is — near enough that regrowth doesn't draw a line, warm enough that grey blends rather than standing out. It is our best-selling shade across 24.

What "100% organic" means here
Not 99%, not 99.9% — every herb in the pouch is certified organic, and there is no base powder or carrier underneath them. Each shade is vacuum-sealed to slow oxidation before you open it, and shipped by air from our production facility in India so newer stock reaches you.
Embrace the Timeless Allure of Natural Dark Brown Hair
Dark Brown adds depth without dramatic contrast. Because plant pigment layers over the colour you already have instead of replacing it, your own variation stays underneath — which is why it shifts in daylight rather than returning one flat tone. It won't lighten hair: this shade can only go darker or warmer than where you started.

Infused with botanical pigments, Dark Brown blends seamlessly with your natural base, adding richness and shine while maintaining an authentic, understated appearance. It’s the perfect choice for those who want noticeable depth without dramatic contrast.

Unlike chemical dyes that can create flat or overly intense color, our organic Dark Brown harmonizes with your natural tones — revealing a healthy, luminous glow from every angle.
Transform your look naturally and say goodbye to harsh chemicals. Embrace a deeper, more confident version of yourself with the effortless beauty of naturally stunning Dark Brown hair.

Ingredients
Seven certified organic herbs, and no base powder or carrier underneath them. Ingredient lists run in order of quantity — and these are exactly the same seven plants as our Brown, in a different order. Amla and manjistha trade places: third and fifth here, the other way round on Brown. Hibiscus climbs from last on this list to fourth on that one. Nothing is added and nothing is taken away — the two shades are the same seven herbs, weighted differently, and that is the whole of what separates them.
Important: this shade contains indigo, which a small number of people react to. Patch test before use, especially if you have sensitive skin or have reacted to plant dyes before. Stop use if irritation occurs. 100% organic. Made in India.
FAQ
Because the indigo hasn't oxidised yet — green is the stage it passes through on the way. It is the normal starting point, not a failed result. The green clears over the first 12 to 24 hours, and the brown arrives around day two. Judge your colour on day three, not before.
No — and this is the one instruction we'd ask you not to skip. The colour is still oxidising after you rinse, and that reaction needs moisture. Force-drying with hot air pulls the water out before the indigo has finished, and the reaction stops where it stands rather than resuming later. Where it stands on day one is a violet-purple partway point. Most purple results we hear about come from exactly this. Let hair air-dry, with no heat, for the first 24 hours.
Almost always, the hair dried out before the oxidation finished — usually a blow dryer, sometimes a very dry room or a towel left wrapped for hours. The purple is your colour frozen partway through, not a bad batch or the wrong shade. It generally isn't permanent, and keeping hair lightly moisturised often lets it continue developing. If it doesn't shift, contact us and we'll work through it with you.
It's designed to, and for most people it does. Results depend on how much grey you have, how porous it is, and how fully you saturate it — grey and low-porosity hair are the hardest for plant pigment to take, and may need a second application. Coverage on grey also looks different from chemical dye: it tends to blend rather than block out, which is why regrowth is less starkly visible.
No. Plant colour layers over what you already have rather than lifting it out, so it can only go darker or warmer than your starting colour. If you want lighter, this isn't the shade — and no plant colour will do it.
Typically 30–45 days, depending on your hair and how often you wash. Frequent shampooing, especially with strong or clarifying shampoos, shortens it; rinsing with plain water in between is fine. A gentle sulfate-free shampoo helps.
Tell us. Plant colour behaves differently on different hair, and we'd rather hear about it than have you write it off. First-time customers who don't get the result they expected can have a different shade sent free, or a full refund on the colour.
It's made from certified organic herbs with no synthetic additives, but any colour product can irritate some people, and indigo in particular causes reactions in a small number. Patch test before full application, especially with sensitive skin or a history of reactions to plant dyes. Stop use if irritation occurs.
Yes, and it's what turns the henna's orange into brown. If you have a known indigo or plant-dye sensitivity, don't use it. If you're unsure, patch test and wait 48 hours.

The US Pouch
Ordered as Needed, Flown In, Shipped Fresh
Every pouch we sell is handled the same way, from the factory in India to your door, so that it reaches you as close to freshly made as we can manage — and so all 24 shades stay in stock.
Sealed at the factory
Dried, blended, vacuum-packed
The herbs are dried and blended at the factory and vacuum-sealed there, while the powder is fresh. Air is what ages plant powder — henna's pigment breaks down with oxygen, and air-exposed powder smells much stronger.
Flown in
By the pallet, by air
Each shade is ordered in units of 25, and the shades due for restocking are combined into a pallet of about 1,000 pouches, flown to Torrance, California — days in the air instead of months at sea.
Checked monthly
Each shade, on its own schedule
We check every shade's sales each month and forecast demand from our sales history, with the help of AI. When a shade drops below three to six months of stock, we order about a year to eighteen months' worth — enough to stay in stock, not so much that it sits.
18 months+
Left on every pouch we send
We ship the oldest stock first, and take any batch with less than 18 months left out of sale. Every order arrives with at least 18 months before its expiry date.
