Radico oxidizes too — that's how indigo keeps developing for days after you rinse. So the difference isn't whether a reaction happens. It's what the reaction is spent on. Conventional permanent colour spends it on your melanin and your keratin. Radico spends it on plant pigment sitting on the outside of the strand.

Hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the melanin inside your strand — and it doesn't stop there. It also converts the cystine bonds that hold keratin together into cysteic acid.
Cysteic acid build-up and cuticle loss are much of what we recognise as weathered hair. Conventional colour produces both in half an hour, and the effect accumulates with every application over the years.
The oxidation happens to the henna and indigo you applied — not to you. After you rinse, the pigment on the surface keeps reacting with air for two to three days, which is why the shade is not finished when you step out of the shower.
Your own melanin is never a reactant. It's the base the colour sits on.
Ammonia raises the pH to swell the cuticle so dye precursors can reach the cortex. The reaction is deliberately placed inside the fibre, because that's where it has to be for the colour to be permanent. The cuticle does not close back the way it was.
Nothing forces the cuticle open, because nothing needs to get in. Henna's pigment bonds to keratin at the surface. Indigo works differently again: it arrives colourless and water-soluble, then turns blue in place and is physically trapped in the outer layers. Neither one needs the fibre opened.
The trade-off: that surface chemistry is why Radico needs about an hour on the hair, where a conventional permanent colour is finished in thirty minutes — and why it keeps developing for two to three days after you rinse. It's still a single application, though: the shades are pre-blended, so there's no separate henna step first.
PPD and related precursors arrive colourless and develop only once peroxide oxidizes them. They are also a common trigger of hair dye allergy, which is why a patch test is standard.
Twelve herbs across all 24 shades: henna leaf, indigo leaf, colorless henna, manjistha root, hibiscus flower, neem leaf, amla fruit, reetha fruit, shikakai seed, bhringraj leaf, brahmi leaf and methi seed. You add water. Nothing else goes in.
What Radico can't do: it cannot lighten hair. Lifting colour requires bleaching, and bleaching requires peroxide. Every shade works with your natural base rather than against it.
Colouring for the first time? Then there's nothing to undo yet — which makes this the easiest possible place to start. The damage on the left is cumulative, so the version of it you never begin is the one you never have to repair.

Scalp hair grows about a centimetre a month and stays in its growing phase for two to six years before it sheds. Which means the ends of your hair are not new. They have been through every wash, every dryer, and every colour you have given them.
Growth rate is an average; individual hair varies. Ages shown are approximate.
Hair is dead tissue. There is no cell in the shaft to rebuild a cuticle once it has gone — no repair mechanism, no recovery over time. Whatever a treatment takes from the fibre stays taken until you cut that length off.
An intact cuticle is also what makes hair reflect light evenly, so the shine people read as healthy is largely a surface that is still smooth. Radico doesn't put that shine there. It leaves the cuticle you already have alone, so the shine you were born with has a chance of still being there in five years.
To be clear about what this is not: plant colour is not a treatment and not a repair. What it does is avoid adding to the total — which, over the years a single hair is on your head, is the only thing that was ever available.

The Formula
There is no dye in the pouch — only ground plants. Pick a shade to see exactly which ones are in it, and what each is doing in the blend.
Every plant here is certified organic, and no shade uses all twelve. Ingredient lists run in order of quantity — so the first name is doing the most work.

Before and After the Colour
Neither of these is a daily shampoo, and we'd rather explain what each one is for than sell you both. One strips, one settles — and the difference between them is measurable on a pH meter.
Where our products sit
Our own readings, on a handheld meter. The shaded band is hair's own surface — the range everything is measured against.
Things you already know the taste of
The treatment powder sits just below hair's own range; the bar sits well above it. Everything else we make is on the acid side, because that's where you want a wash you use regularly. The bar is the one exception, and that is the whole point of it.
A true soap — five organic oils saponified, the way soap has been made for centuries. Its job is to strip. Conventional shampoos and conditioners leave silicone and polymer film behind, and plant pigment cannot bind through a film. One wash with this before you colour, and it's gone.
What we're less sure about: you'll read that alkalinity opens the cuticle so pigment binds better. Alkaline conditions do lift cuticle scales. Whether that measurably improves the result, we don't know — we haven't found a study, and we haven't run one. The residue is the part we're confident about.
Not for daily use, and not for 72 hours after colouring. Contains almond oil (a tree nut) and lavender oil, a known contact allergen. Don't use it if you react to either.

Three fruits ground together — amla, reetha and shikakai. Reetha and shikakai carry saponins, which wash without a detergent. Its other job is acidity: after an alkaline wash, cuticle scales stand up and hair catches on itself. An acid rinse brings them back down.
An old pairing, not a new idea. Soap followed by an acid rinse is how hair was washed for a very long time before pH-adjusted shampoo existed. Mix it thin as a rinse, or thick as a fifteen-minute treatment — either brings the pH back down.
What we don't claim: that it promotes growth, prevents greying, or delivers vitamins into the hair. It's a wash and an acid rinse made from three certified organic fruits.

Tried other henna brands but none of them worked. When I discovered Radico I was not sure how the color will come out. First I tried Champagne Blonde which covered my grey hair well but the all over color was a little too light. Next I tried Beige blonde and it came out just the way I wanted to. The greys are light blonde and the rest of my hair darker beige and golden. The color smella very pleasant ( my cats are very attracted to it ). I am very happy to have discovered Radico colors since they are natural and none irritating.

I have fine hair and have been under the belief that my hair needs to be “squeaky clean” and then add a load of volumizing & super moisturizing conditioner to make it right. Radio’s shampoo bar doesn’t weigh it down or strip it -which feels odd at first, but that’s actually because my hair is not being stripped of its natural oils in the first place.
Sooo…..No more clumps of hair in the drain and no need for conditioner. My hair looks and feels great!

Henna's pigment forms a covalent bond with the keratin in your hair — it attaches to the fibre rather than resting on it, which is why plant colour wears down as the hair wears rather than rinsing away. Indigo works differently: it sits in the outer layers and deepens over the days after you rinse. Both need something from you first.
Every dark herbal shade is a warm colour with blue laid over the top. Henna bonds early, but indigo is still developing when you rinse — and it only develops while your hair stays damp. If the hair dries too fast, the blue stops arriving and the warmth underneath is what you see.
Which makes one instruction matter more than all the others: don't dry it. Not with a warm dryer, not with a cool one — the problem is the drying, not the heat. We tested this on grey swatches, and re-wetting afterwards did not bring the colour back.
Green at the rinse is the reaction running, not a fault — and it clears on its own. You'll see it most clearly on grey or light hair, because there's no pigment underneath to hide it.

Why test first? There is nothing in the pouch to force a fixed result — no peroxide, no developer — so where the colour lands depends on the hair it lands on. And because henna bonds to the fibre rather than sitting on it, it wears down gradually rather than washing out. One small test tells you what to expect before you commit.
