Light Brown - Organic Hair Color
Light Brown
Colour Me Organic Premium
Certified Organic Hair Colour Powder · 3.5oz
The lightest and thinnest of our browns, made from seven organic herbs. No peroxide, no ammonia, no PPD. It processes for about an hour, then keeps developing for two to three days.
Read this before you choose it. Plant colour cannot lighten hair — and a lighter plant shade is a thinner one, not a stronger one. On dark hair, Light Brown adds warmth and shine but the change can be subtle enough that some people don't see it. That isn't a fault: the third ingredient in this shade is a herb that barely colours at all.
Where it does show is grey. Grey hair holds no melanin, so plant pigment lands at full strength there and barely registers on the pigmented strands around it. On darker hair with greys coming through, that reads as soft honey highlights rather than coverage — which is what most people choose this shade for.
If you want all of your hair to change, Brown or Dark Brown is the better fit.

What "100% organic" means here
Not 99%, not 99.9% — every herb in the pouch is certified organic, and there is no base powder or carrier underneath them. Each shade is vacuum-sealed to slow oxidation before you open it, and shipped by air from our production facility in India so newer stock reaches you.
The Natural Warmth of Light Brown
Because plant pigment layers over the colour you already have instead of replacing it, your own variation stays underneath — which is why the tone shifts between indoor light and sunlight rather than returning one flat colour. Indoors it reads as a warm coppery brown; in daylight the gold comes forward. It is the warmest brown in the range, and the one that changes most between rooms.
How it differs from chemical colour
Conventional dye lifts your own pigment out and puts synthetic pigment in its place — and a light brown on dark hair needs more lifting than a dark shade does, not less. This one doesn't lift anything. Plant pigment layers over what you have, so the cuticle stays shut and there is no damage to repair afterwards. That's the whole trade: it costs you the option of going lighter, and saves you everything that comes with it.
- Powder-based organic colour for women and men
- Certified organic by ECOCERT
- No peroxide, ammonia, PPD, parabens or synthetic pigment
- Blends grey rather than blocking it out — process about 1 hour, final tone at 72 hours
- At-home application, no developer to mix
- Not suitable for anyone with a known indigo or plant-dye allergy — patch test first
What to expect over three days
- Right after rinsing — a faint green cast, then bright gold. On grey it can look startlingly orange. Normal starting point, not the result.
- First 12 to 24 hours — the brightness drops back as the indigo forms.
- Around day two — settles into honey brown, and stays warm. Judge your colour here, not before.
Do not blow-dry your hair after rinsing. The colour is still oxidising, and that reaction needs moisture. Force-drying stops it where it stands — on this shade, a bright uncooled orange. Let hair air-dry, with no heat, for the first 24 hours.
Expect to go twice. This is a thin shade, and on resistant or low-porosity hair one round often isn't enough. A second application a few days later builds depth; a longer first application does not substitute for it.

Results vary with starting colour, grey percentage, porosity and processing time. Light Brown carries the least pigment of the browns, so on darker or low-porosity hair the change is subtler than these photos.

Ingredients
Seven certified organic herbs, and nothing else — no base powder, no carrier, no synthetic pigment. Ingredient lists run in order of quantity, and on this shade the third name is a herb that barely colors at all. That is what makes Light Brown light.
Important: this shade contains indigo, which a small number of people react to. Patch test before use, especially if you have sensitive skin or have reacted to plant dyes before. Stop use if irritation occurs. 100% organic. Made in India.
FAQ
Yes. Indigo is the first ingredient in this shade — it is what keeps the henna from reading as pure copper. If you have a known indigo or plant-dye sensitivity, don't use it. If you're unsure, patch test and wait 48 hours.
Light Brown carries the least pigment of our browns — the third ingredient is colorless henna, a herb that barely colours at all. On dark hair there is melanin underneath competing with a thin shade, and melanin wins. On resistant or low-porosity hair, one round often isn't enough either. Two things help: a second application a few days later, and making sure the hair was completely free of conditioner, oil and silicone beforehand. Extending the first application does not substitute for a second one. If it still doesn't land, contact us — this shade is the one we hear about most, and we would rather sort it out.
Because the indigo hasn't oxidised yet, and what shows first is henna with little to mute it. On grey hair especially it can look startling. The brightness drops back over the first 12 to 24 hours and settles into honey by day two. Judge your colour on day three.
No — and this is the one instruction we'd ask you not to skip. The colour is still oxidising after you rinse, and that reaction needs moisture. Force-drying with hot air stops it where it stands rather than pausing it. On this shade, where it stands is a bright uncooled orange. Let hair air-dry, with no heat, for the first 24 hours.
It blends grey rather than blocking it out, and on darker hair that reads as soft honey highlights rather than solid coverage. That is what most people choose this shade for. If you want even, uniform grey coverage, Brown or Dark Brown will give you more of it.
No. This is a non-oxidative plant colour with no peroxide or ammonia-type lightening agents, so it deposits colour rather than lifting your natural pigment. It cannot dye your hair lighter than your current colour. If you want a lighter result, you would need to start from a lighter base.
Typically 30–45 days, depending on your hair and how often you wash. Strong or clarifying shampoos, frequent washing and very hot water all shorten it. A gentle sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water help.

It's made from certified organic herbs with no synthetic additives, but any colour product can irritate some people, and indigo in particular causes reactions in a small number. Patch test before full application, especially with sensitive skin or a history of reactions to plant dyes. Stop use if irritation occurs.

The US Pouch
Ordered as Needed, Flown In, Shipped Fresh
Every pouch we sell is handled the same way, from the factory in India to your door, so that it reaches you as close to freshly made as we can manage — and so all 24 shades stay in stock.
Sealed at the factory
Dried, blended, vacuum-packed
The herbs are dried and blended at the factory and vacuum-sealed there, while the powder is fresh. Air is what ages plant powder — henna's pigment breaks down with oxygen, and air-exposed powder smells much stronger.
Flown in
By the pallet, by air
Each shade is ordered in units of 25, and the shades due for restocking are combined into a pallet of about 1,000 pouches, flown to Torrance, California — days in the air instead of months at sea.
Checked monthly
Each shade, on its own schedule
We check every shade's sales each month and forecast demand from our sales history, with the help of AI. When a shade drops below three to six months of stock, we order about a year to eighteen months' worth — enough to stay in stock, not so much that it sits.
18 months+
Left on every pouch we send
We ship the oldest stock first, and take any batch with less than 18 months left out of sale. Every order arrives with at least 18 months before its expiry date.
Applies to orders shipped by Radico USA. More on storage and dates →
