Sun Blonde - Organic Hair Color
Sun Blonde
Colour Me Organic Premium
Certified Organic Hair Colour Powder · 3.5oz
The only shade in our range built on neither henna nor indigo. The colour here comes from turmeric — a different pigment entirely, working a different way.
That means no green stage and no waiting. Curcumin is already coloured when it goes on, unlike indigo, which arrives colourless and has to oxidize over days. What you see when you rinse is essentially what you keep.
It also means a shorter life. Curcumin is not light-stable — this shade fades faster in sunlight than anything else we make. We'd rather tell you that up front.

What "100% organic" means here
Not 99%, not 99.9% — every herb in the pouch is certified organic, and there is no base powder or carrier underneath them. Each shade is vacuum-sealed to slow oxidation before you open it, and shipped by air from our production facility in India so newer stock reaches you.
Embrace the Bright Energy of Natural Sun Blonde
Sun Blonde is a vibrant, sunlit yellow-blonde inspired by natural golden light. It brings warmth and brightness while keeping a soft, botanical finish — a playful shade for anyone drawn to a bold tone but wanting a plant-based route to it.
How this shade works differently
Every other colour we make is built on henna, indigo, or both. Henna's pigment bonds covalently to keratin; indigo's arrives colourless and forms in place over days. Sun Blonde uses neither.
Turmeric's curcumin is a bright yellow that binds readily to keratin and is already coloured going on. Simpler in one way — no oxidation window, no green stage, no three-day wait. And harder in another: curcumin is not light-stable, so this shade fades faster than the rest of our range.
There are also two herbs here that appear in no other shade: reetha and shikakai, both traditional cleansers. A pale tone needs a clean fibre to land on, and the mix does some of that work itself.
What kind of colour this is
- Powder-based organic colour for men and women

- Contains no henna and no indigo — the only shade in our range that contains neither
- No green stage and no waiting — the colour is there when you rinse
- Fades faster than our other shades — curcumin is not light-stable
- Works on blonde, heavily lightened or grey hair only — it will not show on medium brown or darker
- At-home application, no developer to mix
Two things to know before you start
Turmeric stains. Skin, nails, fabric, surfaces. This is the only shade we make where that is a real concern — wear the gloves supplied, use an old towel, and wipe splashes rather than letting them sit. Staining on skin fades within a day or two.
Sunlight fades it. Curcumin is not light-stable; that is a property of the compound rather than anything about the formulation. If you are outdoors a lot, a hat or a UV-protective product will meaningfully extend how long this shade holds.

Ingredients
Seven certified organic herbs, and this is the only shade in our range built on neither henna nor indigo. The color here comes from turmeric — a different pigment entirely, working a different way. Two of the herbs below it are traditional cleansers rather than colorants, and three of the seven appear in no other shade we make. Ingredient lists run in order of quantity.
100% organic. Made in India. This shade contains no henna and no indigo. Any color product can irritate some people, so patch test before full application, especially with sensitive skin or a history of reactions to plant dyes. Stop use if irritation occurs.
FAQ
No. Sun Blonde is the only shade in our range built on neither. The colour here comes from turmeric — a completely different pigment. That means no green stage at the rinse, no three-day development window, and none of the warm red register henna brings.
Turmeric's pigment is curcumin, a bright yellow that binds readily to keratin. Unlike indigo, which arrives as a colourless precursor and has to oxidize in air over days, curcumin is already coloured — so the result is there from the moment you rinse. It is a simpler mechanism than the rest of our range, with one trade-off: curcumin is not light-stable.
It can. Turmeric stains skin, nails and fabric readily, and this is the only shade we make where that is a real concern. Wear the gloves supplied, use an old towel, protect surfaces around you, and wipe splashes immediately rather than letting them sit. Any staining on skin fades within a day or two.
Shorter than our other shades, and we would rather say so. Curcumin fades faster in sunlight than any pigment we work with — it is not light-stable, which is a known property of the compound rather than anything to do with the formulation. Typically about 30 days, less if you are outdoors a lot. A hat or a UV-protective product helps. Gentle sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water help too.
No. A pale yellow needs a light base to sit on — plant pigment adds and never lifts. On medium brown hair this barely registers, and on anything darker it won't show at all. Sun Blonde is for hair that is already blonde, heavily lightened, or grey.
It brightens grey rather than covering it. Grey takes plant pigment readily — it has no melanin of its own to compete — so on grey or white hair this reads as a soft golden tint. On darker hair with greys, only the greys will take it.
Reetha and shikakai both contain saponins, the naturally foaming compounds traditionally used to wash hair in India. They carry no pigment. They are here because a pale shade needs a clean fibre to land on — residue blocks a light tone far more easily than a dark one — so the mix does some of that work itself. No other shade in our range contains them.
No. The vinegar trick works on henna-based colours, where mild acidity helps release lawsone from the leaf. There is no henna in this shade, so there is nothing for the acid to act on.
No. This is a non-oxidative plant colour with no peroxide or ammonia-type lightening agents, so it deposits colour rather than lifting your natural pigment. A lighter result requires starting with a lighter base.

The US Pouch
Ordered as Needed, Flown In, Shipped Fresh
Every pouch we sell is handled the same way, from the factory in India to your door, so that it reaches you as close to freshly made as we can manage — and so all 24 shades stay in stock.
Sealed at the factory
Dried, blended, vacuum-packed
The herbs are dried and blended at the factory and vacuum-sealed there, while the powder is fresh. Air is what ages plant powder — henna's pigment breaks down with oxygen, and air-exposed powder smells much stronger.
Flown in
By the pallet, by air
Each shade is ordered in units of 25, and the shades due for restocking are combined into a pallet of about 1,000 pouches, flown to Torrance, California — days in the air instead of months at sea.
Checked monthly
Each shade, on its own schedule
We check every shade's sales each month and forecast demand from our sales history, with the help of AI. When a shade drops below three to six months of stock, we order about a year to eighteen months' worth — enough to stay in stock, not so much that it sits.
18 months+
Left on every pouch we send
We ship the oldest stock first, and take any batch with less than 18 months left out of sale. Every order arrives with at least 18 months before its expiry date.
