Violet - Organic Hair Color
Violet
Colour Me Organic Premium
Certified Organic Hair Color 3.5oz
A violet from four organic herbs — tied with Darkest Ash Blonde for the shortest ingredient list we make, and one of six shades built without henna.
That absence is the point. Henna's warm red would cancel a violet outright. Leaving it out is what makes this colour possible at all.

Real natural hair color begins with truly organic ingredients.
And when we say organic, we mean 100% certified organic herbs—not 99%, not 99.9%, but fully certified organic botanical color.
Colour Me Organic Premium is the premium U.S. edition of our 100% organic hair color line, designed for a more protected herbal coloring experience.
Each shade is vacuum-sealed to help protect the herbs from oxidation, designed for a 5-year shelf life, and shipped more frequently by air from our production facility in India so newer product can reach you more reliably.
Experience the striking beauty of Violet and let your hair shine with genuine, pure, botanical color.
Embrace the Bold Elegance of Natural Violet
Violet is a refined blend of hibiscus-inspired red tones and indigo blue depth, creating a balanced, multidimensional purple hue. This shade delivers bold character while maintaining a natural botanical finish.

Unlike artificial purple dyes that appear flat or synthetic, Violet reveals layered richness under natural light. The harmony between warm red and cool blue tones creates a sophisticated, fashion-forward shade that feels expressive yet elegant.

Whether you’re refreshing your look or making a confident statement, Violet offers a naturally vibrant transformation.

How a plant makes violet
Blue plus a red with blue in it. Indigo leads the ingredient list and gives the blue. Hibiscus sits third, carrying cyanidin — an anthocyanin that reads magenta rather than plain red. Manjistha adds red depth underneath.
Every other shade we make has henna somewhere near the top, and henna gives one thing: a warm orange-red. Put that under a blue and you get brown, not violet. This is one of six shades where we leave it out entirely.

What kind of colour this is
Conventional dye lifts your own pigment out and puts synthetic pigment in its place. This one doesn't lift anything — plant pigment layers over what you already have, so the cuticle stays shut and there is no damage to repair afterwards.
- Powder-based organic colour for men and women
- Certified organic by ECOCERT
- No peroxide, ammonia, PPD, parabens or synthetic pigment
- Contains no henna — one of six henna-free shades, and the only way a violet is possible
- Contains indigo — there is a green cast at the first rinse, and it clears over a day or two
- Colours grey most vividly of all; on darker hair it reads as a cool sheen rather than a colour change
- At-home application, no developer to mix
- Not suitable for anyone with a known indigo or plant-dye allergy — patch test first
What to expect
- Right after rinsing — a green cast. That's the indigo before it has met the air. Temporary.
- First day or two — the green clears and the violet comes forward.
- Day three — the tone settles. Judge your colour here.
Do not blow-dry. Not while the paste is on, and not for the first 24 hours after rinsing. Dry the paste and nothing transfers; dry the hair afterwards and the colour stops developing. Shower cap while it processes, air-dry after. Skip shampoo for 72 hours.
One thing to know about wear: because there is no henna in this shade, the pigment is held in the outer layers rather than bonded to the keratin. It fades sooner than our henna-based colours and benefits from gentler washing.

Ingredients
Four certified organic herbs — tied with Darkest Ash Blonde for the shortest ingredient list we make. There is no henna in this shade, one of six we make without it, and that is what makes a violet possible at all: henna's warm red would cancel it. It is also the only shade in our range with no amla in it — and one of only two with no bhringraj either, which makes it the only one of the twenty-four that contains neither. Those are the two herbs we use most, in 23 and 22 shades respectively, so their absence is why the list below is this short and why there is no amla entry on it. There is no brahmi here either: nothing in this pouch is there for the scalp. Three of the four names carry pigment, the highest share of any shade we make. Ingredient lists run in order of quantity, and here indigo leads with two red-carrying herbs behind it. Blue plus a red with blue in it is what a violet is.
Important: this shade contains indigo, which a small number of people react to. Patch test before use, especially if you have sensitive skin or have reacted to plant dyes before. Stop use if irritation occurs. 100% organic. Made in India.
FAQ
No. Violet is one of six shades we make without henna — the others are Darkest Ash, Dark Ash, Ash, Wheat and Sun Blonde. That absence is not incidental here: henna's warm red would cancel a violet outright. Leaving it out is what makes this colour possible at all.
Yes. Indigo is first on the ingredient list, and with no henna underneath it, it is doing most of the colouring on its own. If you have a known indigo or plant-dye sensitivity, don't use it. If you're unsure, patch test and wait 48 hours.
Blue plus a red with blue in it. Indigo leads the list and gives the blue. Hibiscus sits third and carries cyanidin, an anthocyanin that reads magenta rather than plain red. Manjistha adds red depth underneath. With no henna in the blend, there is no warm orange to cancel any of it — which is why this reads violet rather than brown.
Less than you might hope. Plant pigment adds and never lifts, so on dark brown or black hair Violet reads as a cool sheen in the light rather than a visible violet. It shows most clearly on light to medium brown hair, and most vividly of all on grey.
That is the indigo before it has met the air. It clears over a day or two as the pigment oxidizes. Judge your colour on day three.
Not while the paste is on, and not for the first 24 hours after rinsing. Warmth helps the colour along, which is why a shower cap works so well — it holds warmth and moisture together. A hair dryer gives you the warmth and takes the moisture, and moisture is what carries the pigment onto the fibre and lets the reaction finish.
Not on this shade. The vinegar trick works on henna-based colours, where mild acidity helps release lawsone from the leaf. There is no henna here, and acidity actually holds indigo back — so it would cost you colour rather than gain any. Warm water is all this blend needs.
It colours grey readily — grey has no melanin of its own to compete, so it takes plant pigment more easily than pigmented hair does. On darker hair with greys, the greys will take the violet while the rest changes less, which reads as highlights rather than uniform coverage.
Typically about 30–45 days, though this shade fades sooner than our henna-based colours. Henna's pigment forms a covalent bond with keratin; indigo is held in the outer layers instead, so it wears away faster. Strong or clarifying shampoos, frequent washing and very hot water all shorten it further.
No. This is a non-oxidative plant colour with no peroxide or ammonia-type lightening agents, so it deposits colour rather than lifting your natural pigment. A lighter result requires starting with a lighter base.
Tell us. First-time customers who don't get the result they expected can have a different shade sent free, or a full refund on the colour.
It's made from certified organic herbs with no synthetic additives, but any colour product can irritate some people, and indigo in particular causes reactions in a small number. Patch test before full application, especially with sensitive skin or a history of reactions to plant dyes. Stop use if irritation occurs.

The US Pouch
Ordered as Needed, Flown In, Shipped Fresh
Every pouch we sell is handled the same way, from the factory in India to your door, so that it reaches you as close to freshly made as we can manage — and so all 24 shades stay in stock.
Sealed at the factory
Dried, blended, vacuum-packed
The herbs are dried and blended at the factory and vacuum-sealed there, while the powder is fresh. Air is what ages plant powder — henna's pigment breaks down with oxygen, and air-exposed powder smells much stronger.
Flown in
By the pallet, by air
Each shade is ordered in units of 25, and the shades due for restocking are combined into a pallet of about 1,000 pouches, flown to Torrance, California — days in the air instead of months at sea.
Checked monthly
Each shade, on its own schedule
We check every shade's sales each month and forecast demand from our sales history, with the help of AI. When a shade drops below three to six months of stock, we order about a year to eighteen months' worth — enough to stay in stock, not so much that it sits.
18 months+
Left on every pouch we send
We ship the oldest stock first, and take any batch with less than 18 months left out of sale. Every order arrives with at least 18 months before its expiry date.
