Brown - Organic Hair Color
Brown
Colour Me Organic Premium
Certified Organic Hair Colour Powder · 3.5oz
A brown where the henna is visible, made from seven organic herbs. No peroxide, no ammonia, no PPD. It processes for about an hour, then keeps developing for two to three days.
The first rinse looks green — lighter than the darker shades get, but green. That is the indigo before it has oxidised. The tone settles around day two, and it settles warm: copper and gold moving through the brown is this shade working as intended.
Brown contains exactly the same seven plants as Dark Brown — not one more, not one less. What separates them is how much of each goes in. Here there is less indigo holding the henna down, so more of the warmth comes through, and more of your own hair shows through with it.

What "100% organic" means here
Not 99%, not 99.9% — every herb in the pouch is certified organic, and there is no base powder or carrier underneath them. Each shade is vacuum-sealed to slow oxidation before you open it, and shipped by air from our production facility in India so newer stock reaches you.
Embrace the Timeless Beauty of Natural Brown Hair
Brown adds depth without overriding what is already there. Because plant pigment layers over your own colour instead of replacing it, your own variation stays underneath — which is why the tone shifts between indoor light and sunlight rather than returning one flat colour. It won't lighten hair: this shade can only go darker or warmer than where you started.
How it differs from chemical colour
Conventional dye lifts your own pigment out and puts synthetic pigment in its place. This one doesn't lift anything — plant pigment layers over the colour you already have, so the cuticle stays shut and there is no damage to repair afterwards. That's the whole trade: it asks for more time, and gives you a result you can repeat for years.
- Powder-based organic colour for women and men
- Certified organic by ECOCERT
- No peroxide, ammonia, PPD, parabens or synthetic pigment
- Designed to cover grey — process about 1 hour, final tone at 72 hours
- At-home application, no developer to mix
- Not suitable for anyone with a known indigo or plant-dye allergy — patch test first
What to expect over three days
- Right after rinsing — a green cast, shallower than the darker shades get. The indigo hasn't oxidised yet. Normal starting point, not a failed result.
- First 12 to 24 hours — the green clears and the henna underneath becomes visible. For a while it can look brighter than the finished shade.
- Around day two — it settles, and it settles warm. Judge your colour here, not before.
Do not blow-dry your hair after rinsing. The colour is still oxidising, and that reaction needs moisture. Force-drying with hot air stops it where it stands — and where it stands on day one is a violet-purple partway point. It does not resume later. Let hair air-dry, with no heat, for the first 24 hours.

Results vary with starting colour, grey percentage, porosity and processing time. Brown carries less indigo than the darker shades, so more of your own hair shows through — which makes it the shade where results differ most from person to person.

Ingredients
Seven certified organic herbs, and nothing else — no base powder, no carrier, no synthetic pigment. Brown contains exactly the same seven plants as Dark Brown, but not in the same order, and the order is most of the difference. Manjistha climbs from fifth to third and hibiscus from seventh to fourth, while amla — the herb that cools a result — drops from third to fifth. Two reds up, the acid down. That is why this is the shade where the henna shows. Four of the seven supply color, one steers the tone, one makes the paste work, and one is there for the scalp.
Important: this shade contains indigo, which a small number of people react to. Patch test before use, especially if you have sensitive skin or have reacted to plant dyes before. Stop use if irritation occurs. 100% organic. Made in India.
FAQ
Yes. Indigo is one of the seven herbs in this shade, and it is what keeps the henna from reading as plain red. If you have a known indigo or plant-dye sensitivity, don't use it. If you're unsure, patch test and wait 48 hours.
Because the indigo hasn't oxidised yet — green is the stage it passes through on the way. Brown carries less indigo than the darker shades, so the green here is shallower than they get, but it is still the normal starting point rather than a failed result. It clears over the first 12 to 24 hours, and the tone settles around day two. Judge your colour on day three.
No — and this is the one instruction we'd ask you not to skip. The colour is still oxidising after you rinse, and that reaction needs moisture. Force-drying with hot air pulls the water out before the indigo has finished, and the reaction stops where it stands rather than resuming later. Where it stands on day one is a violet-purple partway point. Most purple results we hear about come from exactly this. Let hair air-dry, with no heat, for the first 24 hours.
Not necessarily. Brown is the lightest of our three brown shades and carries the least indigo, so more of the henna shows through — warmth in the finished result is the shade working as intended, not a result that stopped short. What isn't right is a flat, uniform orange with no depth in it past day three; that usually means development stopped early, from water pH, minerals, or product residue on the fibre.
No. This is a non-oxidative plant colour with no peroxide or ammonia-type lightening agents, so it deposits colour rather than lifting your natural pigment. It cannot dye your hair lighter than your current colour. If you want a lighter result, you would need to start from a lighter base.
It's designed to, and for most people it does. Results depend on how much grey you have, how porous it is, and how fully you saturate it — uncommonly, hair that is coarser or more resistant than the rest, usually at the roots or temples, takes less the first time, and a second application on those areas deepens it. Coverage on grey also looks different from chemical dye: it tends to blend rather than block out, which is why regrowth is less starkly visible.
Typically 30–45 days, depending on your hair and how often you wash. Frequent shampooing, especially with strong or clarifying shampoos, shortens it; rinsing with plain water in between is fine. A gentle sulfate-free shampoo helps.

It's made from certified organic herbs with no synthetic additives, but any colour product can irritate some people, and indigo in particular causes reactions in a small number. Patch test before full application, especially with sensitive skin or a history of reactions to plant dyes. Stop use if irritation occurs.

The US Pouch
Ordered as Needed, Flown In, Shipped Fresh
Every pouch we sell is handled the same way, from the factory in India to your door, so that it reaches you as close to freshly made as we can manage — and so all 24 shades stay in stock.
Sealed at the factory
Dried, blended, vacuum-packed
The herbs are dried and blended at the factory and vacuum-sealed there, while the powder is fresh. Air is what ages plant powder — henna's pigment breaks down with oxygen, and air-exposed powder smells much stronger.
Flown in
By the pallet, by air
Each shade is ordered in units of 25, and the shades due for restocking are combined into a pallet of about 1,000 pouches, flown to Torrance, California — days in the air instead of months at sea.
Checked monthly
Each shade, on its own schedule
We check every shade's sales each month and forecast demand from our sales history, with the help of AI. When a shade drops below three to six months of stock, we order about a year to eighteen months' worth — enough to stay in stock, not so much that it sits.
18 months+
Left on every pouch we send
We ship the oldest stock first, and take any batch with less than 18 months left out of sale. Every order arrives with at least 18 months before its expiry date.
