Soft Black - Organic Hair Color
Soft Black
Colour Me Organic Premium
Certified 100% Organic Hair Colour Powder · 3.5oz
A black with brown underneath, made from five organic herbs. No peroxide, no ammonia, no PPD. It processes for about an hour, then keeps developing for two to three days — the tone you see on day three is the one that stays.
Natural black hair isn't a flat jet black. Take it outside and warm brown comes through, because dark hair absorbs most of the light hitting it but not all of it. Soft Black is built to behave the same way: darker than Dark Brown, but never the opaque black a chemical dye gives you.

What "100% organic" means here
Not 99%, not 99.9% — every herb in the pouch is certified organic, and there is no base powder or carrier underneath them. Each shade is vacuum-sealed to slow oxidation before you open it, and shipped by air from our production facility in India so newer stock reaches you.
Embrace the Beauty of Truly Natural Black Hair
Instead of an opaque, uniform black, this blend lands on a deep shade with soft brown undertones — darker than Dark Brown, but still reading as hair rather than as dye. Because plant pigment layers over the colour you already have instead of replacing it, your own variation stays underneath. That is why it shifts in daylight.

How it differs from chemical colour
Conventional dye lifts your own pigment out and puts synthetic pigment in its place. This one doesn't lift anything — plant pigment layers over the colour you already have, so the cuticle stays shut and there is no damage to repair afterwards. That's the whole trade: it asks for more time, and gives you a result you can repeat for years.
- Powder-based organic colour for men and women
- Certified organic by ECOCERT
- No peroxide, ammonia, PPD, parabens or synthetic pigment
- Designed to cover grey — process about 1 hour, final tone at 72 hours
- At-home application, no developer to mix
- Not suitable for anyone with a known indigo or plant-dye allergy — patch test first
What to expect over three days
- Right after rinsing — muted, slightly green. The indigo hasn't oxidized yet. This is the normal starting point, not a failed result.
- First 12 to 24 hours — cool blue-black. Air does the work; the green goes.
- Days two and three — settles into Soft Black as the slower red-violet molecule finishes forming and warms the blue down. Judge your colour here, not before.
If it stalls at a purple cast, the hair most likely dried out too fast during the first day. If it holds a warm or reddish cast past day three, water pH, mineral content or product residue are the usual causes. Neither is permanent damage.

Ingredients
Five certified organic herbs, and nothing else — no base powder, no carrier, no synthetic pigment. Three of them supply color, one steers the tone, and one is there for the scalp. It is the shortest ingredient list in our Black & Brown range, and the darkest shade in it: the others run to six or seven herbs. Full INCI list on the pouch.
Important: this shade contains indigo, which a small number of people react to. Patch test before use, especially if you have sensitive skin or have reacted to plant dyes before. Stop use if irritation occurs. 100% organic. Made in India.
FAQ
It's designed to, and for most people it does. Results depend on how much grey you have, how porous it is, and how fully you saturate it — grey and low-porosity hair are the hardest for plant pigment to take, and may need a second application. Coverage on grey also looks different from chemical dye: it tends to blend rather than block out, which is why regrowth is less starkly visible.
Because the indigo hasn't oxidized yet. That's the normal starting point, not a failed result. It shifts to blue-black over the first 12–24 hours, then warms into the final tone over days two and three. Judge your colour on day three.
Typically 30–45 days, depending on your hair and how often you wash. Strong or clarifying shampoos, frequent washing and very hot water all shorten it. A gentle sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water help.

It's made from certified organic herbs with no synthetic additives, but any colour product can irritate some people, and indigo in particular causes reactions in a small number. Patch test before full application, especially with sensitive skin or a history of reactions to plant dyes. Stop use if irritation occurs.
Yes, and it's the main colouring herb in this shade. If you have a known indigo or plant-dye sensitivity, don't use it. If you're unsure, patch test and wait 48 hours.

The US Pouch
Ordered as Needed, Flown In, Shipped Fresh
Every pouch we sell is handled the same way, from the factory in India to your door, so that it reaches you as close to freshly made as we can manage — and so all 24 shades stay in stock.
Sealed at the factory
Dried, blended, vacuum-packed
The herbs are dried and blended at the factory and vacuum-sealed there, while the powder is fresh. Air is what ages plant powder — henna's pigment breaks down with oxygen, and air-exposed powder smells much stronger.
Flown in
By the pallet, by air
Each shade is ordered in units of 25, and the shades due for restocking are combined into a pallet of about 1,000 pouches, flown to Torrance, California — days in the air instead of months at sea.
Checked monthly
Each shade, on its own schedule
We check every shade's sales each month and forecast demand from our sales history, with the help of AI. When a shade drops below three to six months of stock, we order about a year to eighteen months' worth — enough to stay in stock, not so much that it sits.
18 months+
Left on every pouch we send
We ship the oldest stock first, and take any batch with less than 18 months left out of sale. Every order arrives with at least 18 months before its expiry date.
