100% Natural Hair Color: How Multiple Applications Affect Results

Posted by Yuki Katakami on

When it comes to natural hair color, the process is quite unique. Unlike conventional dyes, natural hair colorants are free from additives that boost pigmentation. Instead, they rely solely on plant pigments to dye your hair. Because of this, the final color can vary depending on your hair's condition.

For instance, if your hair’s cuticle is tightly closed, the plant pigments may struggle to penetrate, resulting in a lighter shade. Similarly, if you’ve recently used a hair treatment that coats your strands, the coating may block the pigments, preventing the dye from fully taking hold.

Given these factors, the outcome of a completely natural hair dye can differ based on your hair’s condition and the dyeing technique used. To explore this further, we conducted a test on a gray hair sample to see how repeated dyeing affects the color, especially for those who find it challenging to achieve their desired shade.

For this test, we chose caramel blonde, as darker colors might make it harder to observe subtle changes. We dyed the gray hair sample three times, following these steps:

1. First Dye: Applied caramel blonde to the gray hair sample.

dyed once

2. Second Dye: Reapplied caramel blonde to the same sample.

dyed twice

3. Third Dye: Applied the dye for the third time.

After the first application, the gray hair sample took on a noticeable caramel blonde hue. Upon the second dye, the color adhered more firmly, becoming richer and slightly deeper. By the third application, the difference was minimal, with only a slight increase in darkness, indicating that the plant pigment had fully established itself after the second dye.

For those whose hair is resistant to dyeing, applying the dye three times may result in a slightly darker shade. However, the difference between the second and third applications is minimal.

Our 100% organic hair color is designed to be effective with just one application. It contains herb powder particles packed with plant pigments and natural herbs that enhance dyeing, ensuring that even a single dye produces a vibrant, long-lasting color. Therefore, after the second dye, you’ll likely notice little to no change with further applications, as the results remain consistent.

In conclusion, if you’re using our natural hair color, you can achieve beautiful results with just one or two applications, even on hair that is typically difficult to dye.
