Step-by-Step Guide for Dyeing Low Porosity Hair with Organic Hair Color

Posted by Yuki Katakami on

Low porosity hair can resist absorbing color, but with the right method, your hair will achieve vibrant and long-lasting results. Before you begin, we recommend preparing the Organic Shampoo Bar and Organic Hair Treatment Powder, along with your Organic Hair Color, for optimal results and maximum color absorption.

for Dyeing Low Porosity Hair

Follow this detailed guide:

Step 1: Prepare Your Hair

Before applying the dye

Before applying the dye, use our Organic Shampoo Bar, a mildly alkaline shampoo made from organic herbs, to gently open the hair cuticles. This ensures the herbal pigments penetrate deeply into your hair shaft.

  • Wash your hair thoroughly with the alkaline shampoo.
  • After shampooing, remove excess water gently with a towel. Your hair should be damp, not soaking wet, as too much water prevents proper dye penetration.

Step 2: Apply the Hair Paste

Prepare your organic herbal hair dye paste according to instructions, mixing the herbal powder with warm water to achieve a ketchup-like consistency that doesn't drip easily.

  • Apply the paste thoroughly, ensuring each strand is evenly coated.
  • For low porosity hair, it is beneficial to massage the paste gently into your scalp. Our organic herbal hair color nourishes both hair and scalp, aiding pigment absorption at the roots, where color resistance is typically higher.

Step 3: Allow Time for Color Absorption

wrap your hair

Organic hair color starts binding to your hair only after about 45 minutes.

  • Leave the paste in your hair for at least 60 minutes.
  • To prevent the paste from drying out, wrap your hair in kitchen plastic wrap or a shower cap. This maintains moisture and warmth, enhancing color uptake.

Step 4: Rinse Carefully

Shower your hair

After the recommended time:

  • Rinse your hair gently using comfortably warm water. Avoid vigorous scrubbing.
  • Do not use shampoo or other cleansers at this stage. Although you might notice a lingering herbal scent, it does not indicate leftover paste blocking pores. Excessive washing at this stage removes necessary pigments from the hair shaft, leading to poor coloration.

Step 5: Dry Naturally and Encourage Indigo Development

Indigo, a key herb in our natural hair colors, requires moisture to fully develop its final color.

  • After rinsing, gently towel dry your hair and allow it to air dry naturally.
  • For the first two days after dyeing, lightly dampen your hair periodically to boost Indigo's color development, ensuring vibrant and lasting color.

Step 6: Final Color Set and Maintenance

Natural Saponin Lather

The herbal pigments in your hair take about three days to fully set.

  • Avoid Highly cleansing shampooing your hair for the first three days to maximize color retention. If you feel the need to cleanse your hair during this period, we recommend using our Organic Hair Treatment Powder. Though it produces less foam than synthetic shampoos, its powerful blend of natural saponins provides comparable cleansing power without causing color loss. This gentle herbal cleanser helps maintain your new color, ensuring vibrant, long-lasting results.
  • After the third day, your hair will display a strong, vibrant color lasting approximately 30 to 45 days without significant fading.

By carefully following these steps, you'll achieve the best possible results with our completely natural, organic hair dye designed specifically for low porosity hair.
